Job Description
Are you a friendly, outgoing, and caring individual looking for a new opportunity to help change lives?
We are looking to add new Life Skills Coaches to our amazing team!
We are Cypress Independent Living Services, Inc., one of the largest independent providers of services to Intellectually Disabled Adults and Seniors in the Bay area.
Our services are goal-oriented and driven by the philosophy that the more independent individuals are in their daily lives, the more successful they will be.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Life Skills Coach (LSC) works with and supports individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in the places they live and work. LSCs perform their jobs out in the community.
The LSC plays multiple roles:
PARTNER - assisting individuals to lead independent lives and participate in the community.
TEACHER - finding creative and fun ways to help individuals learn meaningful skills and provide them with information to make the best choices for themselves.
AMBASSADOR - encouraging others to interact with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities as neighbors, friends, and co-workers.
ADVOCATE - supporting individuals to exercise their rights and responsibilities.
SUPPORTER - seeking to understand the likes, dislikes, hopes, and dreams of individuals they support and working with them as they make progress toward their life goals.
All of these roles focus on supporting individuals to live the kind of lives they choose. The LSC does not have the authority to make important life decisions for the individuals they work with; instead, the individuals themselves, with the help of LSCs, parents, legal guardians, conservators, and service coordinators, make decisions about their own lives.
